Rosacea can be a frustrating concern resulting in redness, visible blood vessels, bumps and pimples on the skin. It can present as breakouts lasting weeks or months at a time. Rosacea is defined as a ‘vascular disorder ‘of the face that causes the blood vessels to swell in the middle area of the face in a butterfly pattern.
Rosacea typically appears between the ages of 30 and 50 and affects more women than men. The symptoms can even become apparent at a younger age for some fair-skinned people. Rosacea is restricted to being a facial skin condition and is not related to the person’s general health. Symptoms emerge slowly, so rosacea may initially be mistaken for a mild sunburn or windburn.
